Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
