It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their hitters to possess a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a chance to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her bow and seven international trophies have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Many contend the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a disappointing period because it appeared my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and after that Healy was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was removed the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this triumph following success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have postponed consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as captain.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
